Marine Engineering Careers

Tracy Said:

How to switch career to computer science after completed BE Marine Engineering?

We Answered:

I suggest be happy with your profession. To come to Computer Science, you will have to complete degree like BSc Comp Science or BE Comp Science. This will take four to five years. Again job guarantee cannot be given.

If you have a lot of interest in Computer Science, do a certified course from Microsoft and try to enter animation or web based jobs

Amber Said:

What is the best way into a career in marine engineering?

We Answered:

If I was interested in a career in Marine Engineering I would focus on one place: the Webb Institute located in Glen Cove, NY on the Long Island Sound, Webb Institute is a unique, top-ranked undergraduate institution offering one academic option: a double major in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. 100% of the students get a full-tuition scholarship. Classes are small and 100% of the graduating students get jobs in this field. Even though you are on the other side of the pond, this is worth checking into. Good luck!!

Phillip Said:

What is the career prospects for Marine Engineering in India as well as abroad?

We Answered:

Marine Engineering involves the design, construction, installation, operation and support of the systems and equipment which propel and control marine vehicles, and of the systems which make a vehicle or structure habitable for crew, passengers and cargo.
Marine Engineering is allied to mechanical engineering, although the modern marine engineer requires knowledge (and hands on experience) with electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, chemistry, control engineering, naval architecture or ship design, process engineering, steam generations gas turbines and even nuclear technology on certain military vessels.
Marine Engineering on board a ship refers to the operation and maintenance of the propulsion and other systems such as: electrical power generation plant; lighting; air conditioning; refrigeration; and water systems on board the vessel. This work is carried out by Marine Engineering Officers, who usually train via cadetships sponsored by a variety of Maritime organisations.

Andrea Said:

what are some careers that combine computer engineering with marine biology?

We Answered:

There are lots of jobs in marine biology that require computer guys.
These days any science has conputer wizards and many biologists spend all their working days for weeks on end at computer terminals....mathematics is a big part of modern biology...biometrics and mathematical modelling of biological systems, for example disease control in South American Llama herds, population growth and decline patterns of East Timor flying squirrels or of Pacific prawns or Antarctic catfish.
Actually doing computer maintennce though is a job in itself and you'll only get to combine both if you are in for example a small remote team or on a survey boat for a long time where loads of people are not available to do every job as a separate profession.
Company and university biological teams and government departments normally have the resources to put any computer engineering out to contract or to other departments rather than have their own guys taking time off from biology to be computer engineers.
You might get involved with computer systems based on biological principles, and some research is being done now to gain the advantages that biological systems have taken millions of years to do in making very complex organisms that can carry out many tasks and are sensitive to many kinds of inputs.
The chemistry of sugar usage in humans involves altogether many hundreds of stages, though only the major parts are normally learned in school or college.
The exquisite programming involved is compatable with hundreds of other systems required to make a whole complex plant or animal that works as a unified organism capable of independant existance and of making others like itself, far more complex than any current computer program even for advanced nuclear science and space exploration with probes going to other planets, analysing the soil robotically and sending data and photos back.
Looks good now eh, biology and computers......Coooo, Biology!!!
