2 Yr College

Tina Said:

If you transfer to a 4 yr college from 2 yr college do you get to live in a dorm?

We Answered:

Any full-time student is entitled to a shot at dorm space, regardless of how s/he arrived at the four-year college.

There's a huge variation in costs. Let me do a little looking up...

Edit: Do you mean University of California-Berkeley? Highly competitive, right up there with MIT. Anyway, I'm not finding their dorm costs, but UCLA's are $12,891 per year, dorm and board (food), which only comes as a package, like at most schools. Stanford's room and board is $11,463--nearly $1500 less. Rice, $10,250. Skidmore, $10,776. Hamilton, $9,810. Interesting, that the schools with the sky-high tuition do not necessarily also have high room-and-board.

We Answered:

No. Just go to the fafsa website and add your University school code to your fafsa (if it is not there already) and your aid will transfer from fall to spring.

Vivian Said:

What are the benefits of going straight into a 4 yr. College instead of going into a community college for 2?

We Answered:

If you go to a 4 year, you don't have to worry if your credits will transfer. Also, if you just want to get basics, it's better to go to a 2 year because it is cheaper.

Christian Said:

BS in accounting or accounting certificate from 2-yr college?

We Answered:

BS in accounting would be a good start. Out here in the Bay Area you would probably need to be working on yours Masters also. Not sure how much weight that Accountant Program carries but being a certified CPA is probably enough if your not in a big city.

Ruben Said:

How can a student@a 2 yr college find an academic advisor@the 4yr college that the stuent wants to transfer to?

We Answered:

Call the advisement office at the 4-year college and see if you can speak with an advisor. If they'll only speak to enrolled students, call the admissions office, explain that you plan to transfer there, and ask how to best go about it. The college's website may have a section about transfer students, too.
