Caroline Said:what is the best laptop for a college student?
We Answered:I'd say a HPDV9700 is nice. You can find it cheap online.
Ross Said:What laptop is best for college student?
We Answered:Well if you are looking for a lower price, I would say that you go for a Dell (especially since it would only be used for Word and the internet...why spend more when youre using it for the basics?). My cousin (who is in college) has a Dell laptop, however she and my grandma (who also has a Dell laptop) both have had to take theirs into the shop about 2 or 3 times now to fix it.
My other cousin and I (we're both in college too) have Gateway laptops - they are a bit more expensive (but thats because we have a lot of music and write lots of papers for our majors so we need a lot more storage space). His laptop has been holdin up for about 3 years now without a single complaint, and I can say the same for mine too.
So, my reccomendations would be (of course) Dell and Gateway for lower prices, but you could also check out Acers and HP Compaqs (my friends have these and they love them - but they are much more expensive).
I would suggest that your niece get at least 1GB of storage because with the college workload, she will be saving a lot of work regardless of what her major is. Most models nowadays come with a wireless internet card but just make sure her does come with one as most campuses are wireless.
Also, have her go to stores in your neighbourhood where refurbished laptops are sold - most of the refurbished laptops for sale are brand new and are essentially surplus (therefore you will be getting a brand new perfect laptop for half of the cost or more). Thats what I did and I got mine with the warranty for $700

Allen Said:What is the best laptop for a college student?
We Answered:Yeah I'm a big fan of MacBooks. Apple is great with students and most colleges have discount programs with them. Last year I got a free iPod Touch, printer, and three year service plan when I ordered through my college. The service is great too. My hard drive crashed and I had a new one installed 4 days after I took it in for free.
I'm pretty sure MacBooks come with a minimum 200 GB hard drive which should be plenty of space for everything you need. I have 15,000 songs on mine (~80 GB) and I still have room for all of my programs and documents
Darryl Said:What is currently the best laptop for a college student?
We Answered:I think ASUS UL30A-X5 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Black Laptop (12 Hours of Battery Life) is a good choice for a college student http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002P3K…
Jesse Said:What is the best laptop/notebook for a college student?
We Answered:The requirements for college are actually some of the lightest, as most of what you do is browse for information/email/course work and word processing.
What you need to look are also the other factors, such as battery life, weight, and what you are going to use it for.
Netbooks : Great for portability, great battery life (up to 7-10 hours in same cases), all in one unit. Negatives : Small keyboard, Small screen, No CD/DVD drive.
Laptops: all around great, however they can be a bit larger and heavier.
I would look for a $500 laptop from either HP, Dell, or toshiba
try to get :
Core 2 duo
3 gigs memory
