I would go with a generic HP ink jet printer (HP Deskjet line). You can easily find the ink cartridges for them at any Walgreens/CVS on campus. Cartridges cost around $20-23 each however, but you can't really find any "cheap" ink cartridge anyhow. Many places offer a refill option usually for a lot less (the Walgreen's at my campus does this).

Ideally, a black and white laser printer is less $ per page you print, but the printers themselves are more expensive (especially color laser jets). Its possible to ask your roommate(s) if you guys want to split up the cost and share a laser jet printer.
