You definitely want to apply for federal loans. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and follow the instructions on the site to fill out the fafsa (free application for federal student aid). You enter a school code (the web site helps you find it). Your results will be sent to that school (more than one if you pick more than one). The school will then send you a letter telling you what you qualify for. You also want to do what the previous poster said and check with the financial aid department of the school. A good place to start is the school's website. Most schools have a generic scholarship application. Also check with the specific department in the major you are planning to go into. They may have more scholarships. If you are undecided, pick one that you think might be interesting and do it, they won't take a scholarship away if you change majors. Again, almost everything can be found on the school's website plus the fafsa. If the school doesn't have the forms online, a quick call to the financial aid department will prompt them to send you the forms.
