Books For College Students

Carla Said:

Can you recommend any good books for college students?

We Answered:

Choose an author and read as many books by them as possible, become an expert on them. Look up their bibilographies, their biographies, the time they wrote in and their critical reviews. Choose the type of literature you enjoy, start with an author you have read and enjoyed in the past. If you are looking for classical literature, look at Dante, Cervantes, Swift, Shelly, Bram Stroker, James Joyce, Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, etc.

Books with college students as protagonists?

We Answered:

It is an odd age group to find anything for isn't it? I don't really mind though. I am fine with reading about people a year or two younger than me and most books I like enough to keep reading don't involve gallons of angst or over the top drama. I don't read much adult fiction at all, but the ones I have looked at normally involve people in their 30s or 40s, which is a hard age to relate to for me, so I don't normally find them very interesting. I agree, I don't think books about college-aged people should be in the adult section, they shold be in the YA section if they do make them, seeing as college aged people are the real 'young adults' at ages 18-25 or so.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Where the Broken Heart Still Beats: the story of Cynthia Ann Parker by Carolyn Meyer
Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kesey
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
The Idiot by Dostoevsky
The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy
Silas Marner by George Elliot
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin
The Intuitionist by Colson Whitehead
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe
Shakespeare's sonnets

...and lots more... I hit on just about every author I recalled, and every one who has written a terrific book that will be/is classic since I graduated... it's overwhelming, but just ...

Clifford Said:

What is a good website for college students to buy used books?

We Answered:

Sooooo many websites, the key is to know the correct ISBN number and to research (like window shopping at a Mall), first I go to bn.com (Barnes & Noble) amazon.com (Amazon) half.com (Ebay Text Books) the publishers website or sometimes even myspace or facebook where people are selling or trading text books for specific colleges/universities. The best bet I always have is amazon.com or half.com, but both take a long time to ship depending on the time of year, so if I'm in a rush I'll do bn.com pay a little more and get the books on time.

The Roar is very excellent book. I'd contact it believed invoking rather than disappointing. It's also a fast read because it's so engrossing. The author provided some outstanding suggestions and I'd like to second all of them.
