Betty Said:Writing an article about choosing a career path?
We Answered:I always wanted to be a designer when I was in high school. When I enrolled in college, I was still with the same major until I took a class that had to be taken in order to major in Design. I hated it so bad that I decided to change my major to engineering. I love math and always have. I still don't know which engineering though, but I know I'll be happy since it has a lot of math in it.
I am 21 years old, and still confused on my major. I know it's engineering but dont know which one yet. For now, I'm taking general education classes.
Sarah Said:College students! I need advice about my career and future.?
We Answered:Anything is possible, but realistically people with GEDs seldom do well in University and are seldom competitive for graduate school.
Rather than reach for unobtainable goals like "lawyer" or "psychiatrist", you would do well to aim for modest goals, such as a bachelor's degree in Technology.
Alicia Said:Are career assessment test really helpful?
We Answered:Other than making you aware of new possibilities, no. I find all these tests are interesting, but usually don't give you matches that seem right. I don't know a single person that had a career epiphany after taking one of these tests.
Perry Said:Freshman in college, and math placement tests?
We Answered:Take it as a refresher.
Kay Said:Is there any free career tests for high school students that i can get easy kind-of fast results?
We Answered:go to this website
U take a carrer or match making test, and it show's you a list of careers base on your skills, personality, etc.
You must first make an account in order to login and take the test.
Maureen Said:How did you know your career was the right one for you; how do you explore your options as a college student?
We Answered:Aptitude tests are simplistic, but I do think they're worthwhile. The problem is that they leave out a lot of things, but they can still give you an idea of areas that could work for you as long as you're willing to think outside the box ("the box" meaning the set of 5 or 10 careers listed by the test).
I'm still a student, but I can tell you the story of how I settled on my current major. In grade 12, I had absolutely no direction and the uni application deadline was approaching. I literally just went online and scoured the program listings of every university in Ontario, and jotted down the ones that jumped out at me. The only thing that really jumped out more than all the rest was a very unique program called Popular Culture offered by only 2 schools in North America currently.
I knew that I wanted to do something in the Social Sciences, because I knew that I needed to be dealing with issues regarding human beings. Popular Culture seemed perfect, and it also lined up with my aspiration at the time to get into Marketing or Advertising.
After take the introductory course, I decided to switch majors. There was nothing wrong with the program, but I felt like it was too theoretical for me. I needed something that I would be able to see and feel in a more grounded sense. I'm not sure how, but a few weeks later during exams, I had an epiphany and realized what was hanging in front of my eyes all along. Human Geography. It was my fave class in high school, so I don't know why I never realized it before, but I love Human Geo because I get to learn all the things I want to learn about people, in a spacial context. The career options aren't obvious from the title, but they are plentiful.
So my best advice to you is to consider every angle:
-Do some aptitude tests
-See which of those results match your personality. My favourite way of doing this is the "Daydream Test". If you can spend 10 minutes envisioning yourself in that job being happy and successful, then it could be an option for you. If you can't imagine yourself doing the job, then it's not right for you. Keep in mind that this requires you to do a little bit of Googling to find out more about what each job actually entails so that your daydream can be as accurate as possible.
-Expand outward from the aptitude test. Think about careers that are related to ones in the list, look through program offerings and see if anything different (in a good way) comes up. Do the daydream test for those too.
-Finally, don't make the same mistake I did. think about what your favourite high school classes were/are, and then go see if there is a field of study directly related to that.
Helen Said:can somebody tell me where to find occupation tests, career tests such kind of things?Thank you!?
We Answered:You can try the link below, but the best job is the one that you enjoy most. Remember that you are going to do the same thing over the next 25 years,
