What is considered a good rate will depend entirely on your credit score. If you don't have much established credit (or not very good credit for whatever reason) the really appealing rates are probably not going to be offered to you.

But rather than taking out loans for college in the first place, I would recommend first looking for any scholarships or grants that you might qualify for. Unlike loans which you have to pay back upon completion of your degree, grants and scholarships just help you out and then don't demand come back to bite you in the *** later.
