So far, in doing a search for a more specific answer to your question, I haven't found anything real clear just yet. A couple of sites say that it depends on the state you're in because some states do allow school supplies to be written off.

I'll put in a couple of links to some sites with some information that might be of some help to you and may even give you some other ideas for write offs since you're just going into college. It looks like there are some interesting write offs out there.

You should call your local tax agency like H & R Block and just ask them about that. They can certainly tell you for sure, and for free of course.
