need help with college resume, for high school student? We Answered:
You should include an objective statement (The objective is most useful when the person reading your resume is unsure of the position you’re applying for, usually because this was never made clear by the company or if you’re just entering the work-force with an entry-level job. The general pitfalls of an objective statement is either making it too specific or too vague. Though the hiring manager wants to be able to tell immediately whether you’re a well-suited candidate for the position, they are even more interested in whether you are suited for the company. If your objective doesn’t convey why you would be an excellent hire, chances are your resume will go straight to the wastebasket. If your objective is too vague and says absolutely nothing about you, you might as well not bother writing one at all. The well-written objective will tell the employer immediately the kind of job for which you are looking and why they should hire you.), your education up to this point, extracurricular activities (volunteering, part-time jobs, after-school hobbies), & grades (if they are good).Rafael Said:
I am a first-year college student. How should my resume look like?We Answered:
Your resume should have your full name, address, mail info, phone and email at the top. Then, an objective statement, where you very briefly describe what you're looking for.
Then, in order:
Education, employment, relevant skills (ex. C++ programming or screenwriting or level 12 piano. They don't need to know that you can spin a basketball on your finger), activities (volunteer work, sports, etc. Try to keep this relevant to the job you're applying for if possible.)
There are lots of good templates out there. I can show you mine if you message me.
Added: Yes, since you're only in first year, you should include your high school stuff. Try to replace high school stuff with new stuff as time goes on. After you graduate, you should not have anything related to high school on your resume (unless you were Valedictorian, or something equally incredible).
