If he is a dependant going to college, he can still be on the parent(s) health insurance coverage. Why did they take him off his mother's coverage, they did not have to do that. Any health insurance through the school or university will cost him, it is not free, and probably would only be "basic coverage" in case something very very traumatic were to happen to him.
