College Summer Camps For High School Students

Suzanne Said:

College credit for high school student in Summer/Online camp?

We Answered:

Check with your college for this. I can see the advantage of a camp marketing this way, but I can see the accreditation problems a college would have in accepting this kind of credit. They have no control over what is taught, and would want to orient you to their way of doing things before you run off taking extra credits somewhere . This seems a very shaky idea for the standpoint of college accreditation. Be very careful about this. It can cost you a bunch of money and be worthless to you.

Things that seem like a good idea at the time can later be nightmares because things change. You can take a placement test and get exempted the first course in math or English, only to find that because you stood out a term that you are no longer under the requirements when you entered and are now short an English course. This is one of those times where you are better off going with the flow.

If you want to get ahead, think of the things that would help you without credit being the motivator. Take typing. Take a writing class. Take photography. Take a computer class. These things are likely to help you to get into the first college choice, but you do not take them for credit even though they may help you at all college levels.
