Tell me things a Computer Science college students worth trying? We Answered:
I am not qualified in any way to tell you anything reliable, but I can give suggestions.Try doing some complex problems. I'm aware that some employers issue programming challenges that job applicants must be able to solve before they even consider you. I'm sure you such challenges on the web.
Here's a quick challenge: http://www.quora.com/about/challenges
Programming is not primarily about how well you know languages (that can be improved) but more about problem solving. Gain some experience in solving real programming problems.

Is this a good computer for college students? We Answered:
Depends on what you want and you're willing to spend...it's fine though for basic office apps and internet browsing, but if you ask me out of what I expect from my computer I wouldn't get anything with less than 2 GB of RAM, even if it's a netbook. That one only has 1 GB.Also keep in mind that the resolution is rather low, and there is no disk drive...actually, because of the lack of drive--I wouldn't get it, lol. (It also has XP and not vista, & XP is going to die REALLY soon with 7 coming out, people are actually going to move on, I'll assure you, 7 is nice!!! I've played with the beta)
I finished doing a little research, and actually for a computer that'll last you 4 years in college, you'll want a LAPTOP, not a netbook, all the netbooks mainly come with XP or really downgraded vista now.
Here's a good laptop though, it's gonna cost you a little more but it'll work better,

Be sure to get the free upgrade to 3GB RAM, and the FREE upgrade to the nicer hard drive. Oh and unless you have the money, don't get the wireless-n card, it may not work in the future, you won't need anything more than the first processor (the 2 GHz one) and also, you probably won't need more than the basic video card, everything else is up to you.
And if you don't mind a heavier & bigger, but a cheaper laptop...
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shoppi…
Be sure to for that one,
1. Upgrade to Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Basic is crap for a heavy use computer, it WILL handicap you! Plus you won't get Windows 7, and Windows 7 is AMAZING, it'll finally put Apple's overpriced computers where they belong, or cheapen them (which wouldn't be bad, I may actually recommend a cheaper mac as much as a PC if it they did that) I've played with the RC and beta, and both are great Operating Systems.
2. Base processor is fine, but if you have the 30 bucks, upgrade to the one with the 1 MB cache.
3. Get the 2GB memory, unless you have the cash, then go 3 GB. (Note: if you need to trade off between this and #2, get number 2)
4. Basic 160GB HDD is fine, unless you need more room for music and the like
5. Get the basic one, unless you like those little memory cards, then get the second.
6. The rest is up to you.
And you would prefer a mac over this, I'm sorry, but you're going to have to spend a lot more money!!!!!! The base macbook is 949 bucks, I hate macs anyway though because they're overpriced for the hardware you get, their service system sucks, the CD drives break down quick (the Matsh!@a (yes that says M-a-t-S-H-I-T-a) drive...LOL) and you can honestly get a better machine with a windows, but it's of course your call and preference.
So yeah, last point, to sum up, only get a mac for OSX if you hate windows, because the hardware is sucky on there for your $, NOT BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS GETTING ONE OR TELLING YOU TO, ALOT OF IT IS A HYPE, VISTA REALLY ISN'T THAT BAD (Unless you hate it after playing with it yourself ON A DECENT MACHINE, otherwise I can't help you with that lol). Otherwise, get one of those two comps or something similar.

Does any one know of a good notebook computer model for college students? We Answered:
Usually Dell or HP are the best in my view. Others like IBM and Sony are also available. They all come with MS Office installations. For others may be we have to seek the help from other users if one does not want to spend. Thatz what i did last year. I had installed Corel Draw and other applications.Misty Said:
Free computer for college students, orphans, foster kids going into college? We Answered:
Some colleges give free computers to incoming freshmen. As for how to get a free computer on your own, many of those websites are scams.I once got a free iPod from one of those websites, but it took more work than it was worth.
Keep an eye out for weekly specials this summer. As back to school sales start, I've noticed computers get as low as $200 for a basic system. If that's still too much, look into low financing options and pay a little each month.
Another option is to add an extra couple hundred to your college loans or apply for an extra grant. If you are coming from Foster care, I'm sure there are grants out there, you just need to take the time to look. Maybe ask your guidance counselor for help.
One last option is to try craig's list. Post a request and explain your circumstances. Someone who is getting ride of an old computer might be willing to give you there old one.

Advice to Students: Pack a Mac
Apple's software has improved, but Windows has been stuck in a rut
In a few months, nearly 3 million freshmen will head off to college. Included in the gear most of them lug along will be a computer, often brand new. This year I have some advice for the college-bound: Unless you have a compelling reason not to go with a Mac, an Apple laptop or desktop offers the best combination of features, ease of use, and value ...
