Funding For College Students

Ben Said:

They are suing college students....what can they do if you don't pay?Do you have to worry about jail time?

We Answered:

If you don't have the money to pay, they liquidate what assets you have and begin to garnishee your wages until the judgment is paid. . The settlements that happened were small change to the record company, and they aren't doing it for the money. They are doing it to show you they are serious.

A college fund is, by the way, considered an asset and it would be liquidated.

Daisy Said:

Does anyone have any good fund raising ideas for college students to do?

We Answered:

Even though I own a fund raising company I get this question almost every day...

There are approximately 3,000 fund raising products on the market today. However, there are a few items that you may want to consider when you are choosing the right fundraiser.

1. Fundraising product (item to sell) or service (the car wash)?

2. Risk - Are there any costs associated with the fundraiser (promotional, utility, shelf life, etc.)?

3. Demand - Is the product or service you are considering in high demand? (You may want to have it every year if it is successful)

4. Participation - This will make a big difference regardless of product or service! (Number of people involved)

I would personally recommend looking at a Fundraising Coupon Book for the following reasons.

1. People love to shop for products more than services.

2. They are normally provided on consignment for your group to use. What ever you do not sell gets turned back in with no penalty.

3. A good book always has over $1,000 in discount coupons and depending on the niche these are usually related to the two most consumed items - dining and entertainment.

4. Even small groups can make a considerable impact. 10 people that sell 10 books = 100 books which would (at $6 in fund raising profit per book) equal $600 for your group.

I hope that this helps... Let me know if you need additional help or assistance finding a Coupon Book in your area! I have provided a link to a blog posting that provides additional details as well!

Juanita Said:

Is there any help out there from government funding for a college student?

We Answered:

There is no government funding to help you pay for rent....... There are, however, funding that will help you pay for school. If you've already filed and is receiving financial aid for your school tuition, then that's about all you can get unless you want to take out some loans, but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's absolutely necessary.

If you haven't already filed for financial aid, you should, because you never know, you may be eligible for up to $5,550 of grant money (FREE MONEY!) that will help you pay for tuition costs.

Lynn Said:

How many trust fund college students are voting for Obama?

We Answered:

It is truly amazing to me how having a college education or pursuing one has somehow become a NEGATIVE factor, a point of derision, among many blue-collar conservative Democrats. Apparently those of us who are college-educated are immune to any problems in life. Reality check: many college students - I would dare say, most college students - have little in common with the little hedonists that you see on MTV. To assert otherwise is to betray a clear, irrational bias against college students and America's youth.

I, for one, have paid for my undergraduate education entirely through merit-based scholarships that I had to compete for, based on my record in high school. I will finance my graduate education through a mixture of scholarships and loans. I worked part-time to save money for 4 straight years while in high school, and I have had either a part-time job or a paid internship each summer while in college. My family background is strictly middle class, with total income in a typical year of at or around $50,000. And I have been supporting Obama since day one. Why? I am extremely liberal on social/cultural issues and a social democrat when it comes to the economy and fiscal/monetary policy; I support Obama because I know that he's part of a new paradigm, because he's going to fundamentally change Washington, because he has the best chance of beating the Republicans in November, and because his policy positions are closer to mine than Senator Clinton's on the issues that I most deeply care about.

So yes, I'm sure that many of the stereotypically rich, BMW-driving, hedonistic, sons and daughters of privilege are in support of Senator Obama. As are many of us middle-class college students who have not had life handed to us on a silver platter. Unfortunately, we're the ones who seem to be ignored and clumped in as part of this whole evil "liberal, wealthy, educated elite."

Leroy Said:

Do college students who live with parents have to pay taxes?

We Answered:

You surely do. Most definitively, you must pay taxes if you earn an income. Another wrinikle is if you did not spend all of your scholarship money on books, tuition, lab fees or one of the other possible tax deductions {wholly or partially} you must report that unused portion as income. You should also report the scholarship or grant to the IRS if you worked. If you worked, you may be able to get all of that money back - Federal and State {State if applicable} - if you did not work for a long time in 2007. But you have to file to get it back. Note. You cannot claim exemption from withholding if (a) your income exceeds $900 and includes more than $300 of unearned income (for example, interest and dividends) and (b) another person can claim you as a dependent on their tax return.

You are not eligible for the earned income credit if you can be claimed as a dependant by someone else. You are only eligible for the tuiton and fees deduction to the extent that you paid them yourself. Your parents may have paid tuition and thus be eligible for that deduction. That would appear to be the case in your situation unless you are married. Then, the rules change as to whether your Dad can claim you.

Educational programs must be observed carefully that they are in accordance with the level that a student would be able to understand and grasp. Education also plays an important role in the developing the belief system so parents must observe the course closely.
