How much money should I save up to move to NYC? (I'm a college student)? We Answered:
Well, I hope you have already started saving. First, you should try and find a place in brooklyn, if possible, b/c BMCC is in lower manhattan so its only a few stops out of brooklyn on any train line. I moved out of NY 2 yrs ago but all my family and friends are still there. They tell me the job market is pretty rough out there right now. Rooms can start at $450 or more in the brooklyn area. If you have a car then you might consider selling it b/c parking is horrible and insurance is through the roof. Trains and buses go pretty much everywhere and is the best way to get around NYC. A monthly pass is $89 but well worth the price if you travel more than twice a day. My suggestion is to save about $3000- $5000 (that includes rent). You can also look into apartment shares.Good luck. I have family in the orlando area and it's pretty pricey there too, so you should adjust well.

How to get a job in NYC?We Answered:
Volunteer If you aren't already, start volunteering for an organization that focuses on something that you're passionate about. You may end up doing boring or easy work in the beginning, but as you stick around and demonstrate your commitment, you'll be given more responsibilities. Not only will you be helping others, but you'll also be gaining references. You should emphasize your volunteer experience on your resume, as companies that treat their employees well tend to favor candidates who help the community somehow..... Then fill out job applications

Where is the best place a college student would look for a internship in Radio? We Answered:
Contact your local radio stations. Especially the ones you are big fans of. Offer your skills to them. Let them know you will do what you can to get the skills you need as well as help them by offering whaat you have. The best place to work is a station that you are a fan of because you will have more passion for it.Russell Said:
Working during college?We Answered:
I work full-time and attend school full-time... I have a cumulative gpa of 3.95 (I'm a senior). You can definitely balance working a part-time job with your studies. You should look at working full-time during the summer terms and save up what you can during those months. Yes, there are a lot of merit scholarships available... thousands. Go to the library and look through their giant scholarship books. The average student is making between $7.25 and $9.00/hour. There are jobs that pay more, and some students get lucky. You might want to look into paid internships while you're in school or over summer break as well. $15,000/year is not a bad price for college (or is this just what you would have to pay out-of-pocket)? The average student graduates with their Bachelor's degree with around $26,000 in student loans. Are your parents willing to take out a PLUS loan to assist in paying for your education?Barry Said:
What are RENT requirements for foreign students in NYC?We Answered:
I just did some research in google. And the rule of thumb is that your rent should not be more than a fourth of your income. Therefore if your parents send you $7000 a month, your rent should not be more than $1750. If you rent a place for $3500, you would need a monthly income of $1400.What you must have seen on the website was 4 times, not 40 times.
What I would suggest you do, is check with the housing office at the school. See if there are any apartments advertised with them. And then see if there are other students looking for apartment mates.
Good luck to you!
