Resumes College Students

Amber Said:

What are some of the best home school curriculum's for high school students?(to put on college resume)?

We Answered:

I personally don't think very highly or American, or Penn Foster.

Here are my favorite online HS curricula:

Apex:
http://www.apexlearning.com/

K12:
http://k12.com/highschool/

Florida Virtual School:
http://www.flvs.net/

NorthStar Academy:
http://www.northstar-academy.org/......

UNL Independent Study High School:

Center for Distance and Independent Study:

Keystone High School:

The Potter's School:

As for "stand alone" curriculua, I really like Apologia's science, composition, and geography programs:

I also love Thinkwell:

...and Teaching Textbooks:

Your curriculua doesn't really matter - it's your ACT/SAT test scores, your class *load* (and if it has honors/AP), your outside/community activities, and your overall portfolio.

Howard Said:

What are some prestigious/good businiess related programs for high school students? best for a college resume.?

We Answered:

Starting your own club is definitely a good thing, a college will be impressed at not only your initiative but also the cause. You, could have easily started a gaming club or something of that nature but you chose to do something important and educational.

Also a nationallyyknownw organization for business is FBLA. If you haven't already joined then make sure you do that. If you get active and involved then it will really look great to the colleges. Don't just join but also go the conferences and competitions they have. Also try to get an officer position withing the club because those types of things look good as well. I did all of this with FBLA and not only was it fun but the college admissions thought it was good too.
Good luck.

What are recommended books for college students looking for a job?

We Answered:

I'll be graduating soon too. My mom bought me these:

"The Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success" by Nicholas Lore

"The Career Guide for Creative and Unconventional People" by Carol Eikleberry

"Do What you Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type" by Paul D. Tieger and Barbara Barron.

Congrats! and good luck!!

oh! I would also recommend "The Happiness Hypothesis" by Jonathan Haidt. It will help you with life, not finding a job. It is the greatest book I've ever read. My social psych professor assigned it. I've recommended it to everyone and everyone who has read it has loved it so far :)

Academic Awards possible for college students?

We Answered:

I've never heard of any academic awards in college given on the basis of tests. The ones you mention are high school awards, right? In general, college awards are based on comprehensive applications, which may include information on your GPA, your activities, recommendations, an essay or two, etc. Some are just given to students chosen by the faculty, by the Dean, or by the Financial Aid department.

Vanessa Said:

If 1 third of college student cheat and half of job seekers lie on their resumes?

We Answered:

The truth of the matter is that respect must be earned, it does not come with the amount of money you earn. Honest people get ahead by hard work and not worrying about respect. Do your work well and you will be respected. Good luck to you
