Scholarship Applications For College Students

Harry Said:

How many college applications is too many?

We Answered:

Yes, simply because the chances are very slim of getting a full-ride and you're not improving your chances that much by applying to basically every school in the land. And since it's typically $50 an application, you would be spending a lot of money you could be using toward college.

Claude Said:

A question I am struggling with to answer on College Scholarship Applications?

We Answered:

If you're a straight A student and you are involved in extracurricular programs, don't get too worried about this question. It's on the application for students who DO have questionable flaws in their academic record - students more like myself, for instance. I've moved 11 times in my life and I've struggled with eating disorders, A.D.D., and chronic depression...and even though some of my grades have reflected these obstacles in the past, I've overcome them, blah blah blah. In your case, however, you don't need to "justify" anything because you're doing great! What I would suggest is that you use this question as an opportunity to add some flare to your academic performance. You say your best friend got involved with drugs and alcohol...so build upon that. Say that your friend's actions made you realize that you needed to make a positive impact - you joined SADD to help make a difference. Say that when your father got laid off, you tried not to let it get to you, so you worked harder in school and stayed involved in afterschool activities because it kept your mind off family troubles and you wanted to keep from adding to the stress. Even if you stretch the truth slightly, it's okay. Don't lie, that's for sure. But this is a test of your writing skills and ability to connect with the reader. Good luck!
