Summer Work For College Students

Robert Said:

1 week Summer Vacation for college students?

We Answered:

Depends on how much money you are willing to spend and where you are currently. Obviously if you're on the West Coast Hawaii would be a great choice. If you are East then Florida/the Keys/Cancun, etc. If money is no object I would go to Puerto Vallarta or Brazil.

Happy Hunting.

I am a college student looking for summer work. I saw this flyer at my school...?

We Answered:

Hi -- don't be mad at me, but it sounds like a scam. Read the website. You don't get paid by the hour, it looks like you get paid "by the transaction." In other words this could be one of those pyramid schemes, where unless you convince people to give you money, you will not get paid.

The other warning sign is that you have to pay them $29.00 to get started.

Please -- go to your university job board. They list summer jobs. I got a couple of great, unusual ones (one was working as a paid intern for the journalism department and the other was working as a skip tracer for a credit firm -- I learned alot on that one!) through the UC job listings.

I like person #1's idea of working for UPS, too. They are reputable, pay really well, and I think give benefits.

Good luck. Congratulations on getting your education, too.

Hey... the one way you could make this work for you is to go ahead and do the job, then write an article in your college paper about the results. I think they pay about $40 a story!

Good place for a college student to work over the summer?

We Answered:

i would work retail (as much as the min. wage stinks) because most of the stores give a great everyday discount between 20% to 50%.

i have wanted to work at aerie forever (because i would just loooove the discount since i shop there daily) but a friend of mine applied about a year ago and they only give very short hours (like 4pm-7/8pm) if you decide partime and i'd rather say, three 8hrs day being partime, not 5 half days..but maybe you would like that, and than again maybe that is just the store at my mall in the southshore

waitressing would be good in tips but than again, we are in a recession and not many people are eating out daily. i suggest working at a diner if you go that route because people still frequently head there before work/after church since the food is suprcheap

a receptionist job would pay $10 but its a boring job, but if you like sitting in the ac, it could work out

Are there any non-profit organizations I can work for over the summer?

We Answered:

Some nonprofits hire summer workers, but we have no way to know what orgs there are in your town.

Look through the yellow pages under "nonprofit" or "charitable" organizations.

go to www.unitedway.org and link to your town.

google your town + nonprofit organizations.

Compile a list of orgs that interest you, and send your resume and cover letter to each.

Start now. They're planning their summer hiring now.

However, nonprofits operate on a very limited budget and most will not be hiring, even if they want to.

You might get lucky, though.

Good luck.

Best place for college student to live in Singapore for the summer?

We Answered:

Hi! Welcome to Singapore dude. The best place to live in Singapore for your summer in Singapore is The Grangeford Condo. Its located in " 25, Leonie Hill Road " its quite close to Orchard Road which is Singapore famous shopping district, and its famous worldwide as all the international items are available there. That whole stretch of road is the most happening in the whole of Singapore. Dude, just go to this Condo and on the ground floor or level 1, tell the security where is the management office, if he asks you why, tell him, you need to enquire for room rental. Then he will show you the way, plenty of agents inside the office, their name is ideal or something, then you talk with them for the pricing etc.. I think for a room they charge S$900 per month, with brand new microwave oven, fridge, lcd tv 32inches with free to air channels only, and a brand new airconditioner with remote control. Wifi is free and unlimited. No kitchens. Toilet, and shower facility are there. Swimming pool, gymnasium are at the level 1. Noticed a lot of Americans living there. You can find so many college students living in this Condo dude. There cant be any better place than this one in whole of Singapore for your purpose man. And

Why do we get AP summer work?

We Answered:

Well, not all schools give AP summer work. I took AP World History last year, and didn't get any (some schools do give work for it though, since 10,000 years is a lot to cover). I came in on the first day and was stunned when my teacher immediately gave us 7 different text books. I'm taking AP Stat this year, and I don't have any summer work for that either.

However AP English and AP language (Spanish, etc) both get summer work so there's something to start working off of when you come back in August/September.

I feel for you. I think it's because college classes are longer, you have classes pretty every weekday (whereas in school, you get the sporadic Staff Development day and snow days if you're lucky), you're loaded with more homework, and the professors are probably less hands on and expect you to figure more things out on your own (plus they get paid more to teach...so, supposedly they should do a better job).

Discuss It!
