Textbooks For College Students

Bradley Said:

What do you think are some of the causes and effects of high priced textbooks? (for college students)?

We Answered:

Supply and demand sounds right, but they just want to leave us bankrupt. :(

Ben Said:

Are Etext and Ebooks a good alternative for textbooks for college students?

We Answered:

Sometimes, but they can be problematic. A lot of the etextbook sales sites don't "sell" textbooks; they license them for a limited period of time, and they can only be partially printed. For those, you don't buy the ebook; you rent it; the cost savings are offset by the limited use and the inability to resell it when you're done.

Mobileread's forums regularly discuss e-textbooks, and some of the problems with them. http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthr… is about scanning & converting your own textbooks, and what device might be good for that.

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthr… talks about student reactions to e-textbooks.

Melinda Said:

When do college students usually buy textbooks for spring semester?

We Answered:

I've already started buying them. If you know your going to need the book, amazon.com is a great place to buy them because they're a lot cheaper than the bookstore, otherwise wait until class has started because some classes you won't need the book.

Vernon Said:

How do you as a college student read college textbooks typically?

We Answered:

if my teacher gives an outline, i will just follow that outline and read the main parts. if they do not, i will just read it word for word and maybe reread parts i think might be important.

Megan Said:

does the kindle also include textbooks for college students?

We Answered:

I'm a college student too. I've got some textbooks on my Kindle, but please be prepared that only some of them will be available. It is still convenient though, as I can benefit from buying less heavy textbooks.

I recommend you to read this review if you are getting one, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i…

And I've previously bookmarked an article talking about how to get most out of the investment of the Kindle:

Hope this helps.

Billy Said:

What websites are avalable for college students to exchange textbooks?

We Answered:

www.valorebooks.com, I have found to have the cheapest textbooks. A lot of them are international editions which will save you a lot of money. Also, they will buy them back at the end of the semester and give you a pretty good amount. Entering "shipping" as the promotional code should get you free upgraded shipping.
