It would be illegal for you to work here in Italy without first having a visa that allows work. the economy is not doing so well and there are not many available jobs. Working off the books is less common since there is a ready supply of legal workers and the sanctions for people employing illegal workers have become much more stringent in the last couple of years.Without a working knowledge of Italian, it would just be that much harder to find something.

We Answered:

It depends on the resort and what you plan to do about living space. If you have a place to stay close to the resort, a smaller resort may be inclined to hire you to work during breaks. We have several lifties and a lot of instructors who work during thier college breaks and every other weekend or so. That's prime-time for many resorts, so the extra help is welcome.

Working at a larger resort where you would need Room and Board isn't as likely. I mean, it's worth a shot, especially if you are a certified instructor or you are an experienced patroller, but you most likley won't land a job in mountain ops.

My buddy worked at Alta last year for 6 weeks as a liftie. They didn't put him up. He found a place to crash with some guys he knew and gave them some money towards rent. They all had a daily food voucher for lunch, so they ate at the resort once a day, but otherwise they scarfed down a lot of Ramen.

Your best bet is to call the HR people at some resorts you are interested in working at and see what the deal is.

Go shovel snow. can get 5-15 dollars. Think about it. 30 minutes to shovel 1 driveway. Thats like 30 bucks per hour
