How does rubisco work?We Answered:
Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase oxygenase, most commonly known by the shorter name RuBisCO , is an enzyme (EC 4.1.1.39) that is used in the Calvin cycle to catalyze the first major step of carbon fixation, a process by which the atoms of atmospheric carbon dioxide are made available to organisms in the form of energy-rich molecules such as sucrose. RuBisCO catalyzes either the carboxylation or the oxygenation of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (also known as RuBP) with carbon dioxide or oxygen.RuBisCo (Ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase)
2 3-phospho-D-glycerate + 2 H(+) <=> D-ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate + CO(2) + H(2)O
RuBisCO is very important in terms of biological impact because it catalyzes the most commonly-used chemical reaction by which inorganic carbon enters the biosphere. RuBisCO is also the most abundant protein in leaves, and it may be the most abundant protein on Earth. Given its important role in the biosphere, there are currently efforts to genetically engineer crop plants so as to contain more efficient RuBisCO.

What are some good biology websites for high school students?We Answered:
Actually, on the topic of biological evolution, the absolute best site is the UC Berkeley "Evolution 101" site:http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/ev…
It is a site specifically designed for students and teachers below the university level.
In fact there is a site area specifically for K-12 Teachers (and students):
