Creative Writing Summer Programs For High School Students

Lewis Said:

What do you think my chances are?

We Answered:

I'm also a freshman, and think your doing great. You did better than me, lol. I got like a 3.3 GPA unweighted. Though, I'm in all Honor and AP classes. If I was in CP classes, I would be having the same as you. I would just keep it up, but even kids with perfect grades & SATS still get denied. I wouldn't get your hopes up, and then not get in. I would just keep a positive attitude, but don't be obsessive about it. I would look at other school, because there are a lot out there besides the Ivy's. Good Luck!

How to Prepare for Applying to an Arts College for a Creative Writing Degree?

We Answered:

Any type of extracurricular activity that uses your writing skills - school newspaper, community newspaper, etc - would be good. Also, look for writing contests [at your library, in your community, etc] that you can enter. Take all the AP and SAT II exams that have to do with writing. Take a summer program at a college [UVa has one, I'm sure other schools do, too]. If there's any kind of writing club in your community [where we live there is a "writers & books" group that sponsors various classes and seminars], join that.

If you have to apply specifically for admission to the writing program at a particular school, they would probably request a portfolio of writing samples. It would be a good idea to go the websites of schools offering creative writing programs to see what the requirements are.

One of the most important things is to just keep writing - every day, as much as you can.

Which program should I do in Columbia?

We Answered:

It doesn't matter. Its good to take a wide range of subjects. So even if you take photography and then major in biology later, its still okay.

Good luck..
