1.) It depends on how you use your card. If you carry a balance...it's the interest rate.
If you pay it off every month , you want a card that doesn't have yearly charge.
2.) It smart to shop for everything :
insurances, home ,car ,health, life, etc. You should shop for the best credit card to meet your individual needs.
3.)It depends on how mature the student is...how responsible.
Even then, one credit card with a low credit limit...

One must be 18 to apply for credit. I would not advise doing this at 18 either, unless you also request a credit line no more than $300.00 and your monthly income is 4x that.

That way you can avoid the mistakes that most people get into with credit in their early years and we end up with an economy like we have today.
