Flat screens, TVs, projectors and such are really bad science tools.Effective science teaching doesn't need such things. They may be fine for the occasional instructional video, but other than that they just distract.
Perhaps that's why your science department isn't investing in them. Science classes can be resource intensive and require many more important tools, such as microscopes, glassware, safety equipment, ad infinitum.
A science classroom should look like a science lab, not a Best Buy.
