Chances for a Canadian to get into Cornell University? We Answered:
Congratulations, you have a very good ACT & SAT score. Since you have already participated in extracurricular activities, it gives you additional points to gain admission into Cornell University. I know a lot of students that thought they wanted to go to their dream school, but when they got in and went to that school, they were really disappointed. So make sure you want to go to Cornell University finally. You can get information about the academic requirements here: http://www.unigo.com/cornell_university/…and reviews of Columbia University by actual students here: http://www.unigo.com/cornell_university/…

Which types of Colleges Should I be Looking At?We Answered:
I guess it really depends on what you want to study and where you would like to be. What part of the country interests you? Do you want to attend a predominately black university, or does that not matter? How much money do you have available to you for school?Start looking into scholarship applications, and talk to your high school councilors for advice. It is best to start the ball rolling now.
Good luck!

Would you enroll your child in an after-school science enrichment program? We Answered:
I don't have kids but if I did then I'd only do it if they really wanted to. Otherwise I don't think I would...Ron Said:
Preparing for the Ivy League? We Answered:
Well, first of all I would say that it is very nice that you are serious about the college application process although you are technically just a sophomore - many people dont realize they need to work until the last moment. The biggest advice I would give is to involve yourself in extracurricular activities that are different than what the rest of the people are doing. For example, if you want to be in French club or Marching Band, there might be a thousand other applications with the same info. Try things that stand out and look different. When admissions officers view 20 to 30 thousand applications in large schools you plan on applying, even a little difference can be crucial in catching their eyes. Do not listen to people who tell you that you need to join/create as many clubs or activities as you can - honestly nobody cares. What they care is that you take something maybe fewer in quantity, but more important in terms of what you have accomplished there.
In regards to the alumni relations, I would tell you not to bother asking for a recommendation unless there is something personal they can tell about you. It does not matter how related to school and/or famous the recommended is if he bases the recommendation on numbers and ranks that people see on your application anyway. Do you have any personal and in this case serious Business relation with those people ? maybe not since you just finished only 10th grade, but if you will manage to do that later on, that is the only value the admissions people will look for.
Foreign language is also a requirement. Well, since you appear to be German I guess you already know at least one language but try to be good in something other too ( I see you mentioned Spanish)
The gap year is a good idea if you know it will prepare you well. I would myself take a gap year before applying to college but sometimes family resources do not permit one to be held in the air for a year - sometimes you have to go as fast as you can. If you have the possibility of doing it, do it. Just make sure it does not go further than just a year. I know someone doing 2 years off and it might not be looked on too favorably.
I applied to several Ivies this fall including the University of Pennsylvania ( Upenn college of arts and sciences rather than Wharton business school.) Sadly I was wait listed and could not get in this year but I will try to transfer in the future, there or somewhere else. Admissions are unpredictable, you can never be completely sure of anything and results are not always what you expect it to be.
I wish you good luck on your journey, and please do not expect to find a lot of valuable answers about top schools on this forum. : -) If you need to ask anything at all or just talk, you can simply send me a message and i'll see what I can do.

Preparing for my Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) application? We Answered:
Yes, I absolutely agree with the above answerer. Standardized tests - one of my least favorite things - have a lot of weight. They are not everything but they are very important.Be warned that many top schools require not only SAT/ACT tests, but also SAT subject tests. Harvard/Princeton need THREE of them while Yale and Upenn (college at least) need TWO of them. Start thinking what you are good at and choose those subjects. I am thinking that preparing for those tests is why you want to take a Gap year? If yes, i think its a good idea, work on tests as well as Essays (another very important thing)
