sidenote: I really like that you're asking this question. I occasionally used picture books with 5th & 6th graders this past year. They LOVED it. It really helped build confidence and reading speed in the weaker readers.

I've always thought it would be neat to read different interpretations of fairy tales from picture books and have the students go from there with a research and writing project.
For example: Cinderella
Some of the versions I've seen are cowboy (Bubba, the Cowboy Prince), Chinese, and Mexican.

This is the city, not the suburbs. Almost everyone takes public transportation or walks. Even if they did have a car, there is no place to park on the neighborhood streets. Plus if you had a half decent car, it could get stolen or vandalized. Philadelphia may be called the city of brotherly love, but it is as violent as any other major city. Very few students own motorcycles too. The side streets are covered with snow and ice for most of the winter. It is not a vehicle of choice in the city, even for adults. Again if you parked it anywhere, it would have a 99% chance to get stolen. Most homes in the city have no garages. You park and double park of the street, legal or illegal. You really have a big misconception about Philly. Now if you want to talk about cheese steaks! Good Luck!
