High School Exchange Student Program

Delores Said:

Looking for organization that does exchange students program(high school) in usa for international students.?

We Answered:

Hi there,

I'm hosting a student through a smaller agency called ERDTShare. It is a non-profit. I don't know exactly how you would go about comparing one US agency to another -- but I wouldn't do it based on their websites. Per my own testimonial, I can tell you that ERDTShare really cares about the student and works hard to ensure a good match as well as student and host-family success. They have been extremely professional to work with.

I know of one particular large, pretigious exchange agency who recently sent home a student in our local high school because of irreconcilable differences with her host family. If she had been placed with a different agency, she probably would have simply been relocated to a new family.

All that being said, be sure that you understand and you're fully comfortable with how your prospective agency handles situations where there may be a mismatch between student and family. And don't discount the smaller agencies even if their websites aren't as cool.... because they likely have other assets that are more important.

I would suggest that you make some phone calls to assess the agencies rather than basing your analysis solely on the websites.

Here's a link to the agency we've used. We've really enjoyed the experience working with them. The coordinators are very professional, caring, fun and accomodating, and the students are top notch.

German & American high school exchange program?

We Answered:

This is a fabulous thing. We do the same with a school in Mexico and the kids LOVE it. It is the absolute best way to give the kids an authentic experience.

I could check with my German teacher, but she is old and about to retire so I doubt that she would be into something like this. Also, parents would be reluctant to send their kids with a school that they do not even know at all.

My advice: check with schools that are near you. They will know your school and may be more willing to trust you even though you are a stranger. They can ask friends that they know in the area and will feel better about it.
