High School Student Resume

Terri Said:

Question about a High School Students Resume?

We Answered:

Wow. Your friend is really giving you terrible advice.

I have been to college and graduate school. I have had 3 full-time, high-responsibility jobs since college. Before graduating from college, I had several meaningful, resume-worthy jobs and volunteer positions. I also have several awards and research.

Even with all that, my resume is only 2 pages long.

As a high school student without much work experience, your resume should be 1 page.

Readers typically only take less than a minute to read a resume. This is especially true for positions that high school students can apply for (if you are an experienced professional and there are fewer people applying for the same job as you are, then readers will spend more time on each application). You need to make your resume punchier and faster.

Peggy Said:

When a high school student is writing a resume should they put all the high schools they've attended?

We Answered:

No, you just show the last high school you attended. When you write a resume it's not suppose to be a history of your education. You just need to show the last school you attended or if you are attending school. It cannot be more than 1 page. The person who reads your resume will throw it out automatically without reading it if it's more than one page long.

high school student resume!!?

We Answered:

I just recently got out of high school, and I had a teacher who helped me put together a resume that helped me get a few short-term jobs.

A few things that should be on your resume: gpa (if it's above 3.0), important classes you've taken or are going to take (such as languages and classes that apply to the job you're applying for), volunteer experiences, any experience with computers or other skills you have that would be great to have at a job (like interpersonal skills).

This should help some. Make sure your layout is presentable and easy to read. Good luck!
