If you're serious about wanting to volunteer in the psych ward, volunteer in the rest of the hospital for a year first. That way, when you turn 18, they'll know your work ethic and career goals and be more likely to accept you into a position with that ward. I volunteered at a hospital when I was 13 and 14. My first week in the geriatric ward was very uncomfortable but by the end of three weeks, I signed up to do another three week period there. You learn so much from working in a hospital. I think the experience you would gain volunteering in other wards will really open your eyes and either support your goals or change them. Good luck!
