Into High School

Rita Said:

What classes should I take in High School to get excepted into Stanford University/Medical School?

We Answered:

You should start with spelling/English. It's "accepted," not "excepted," "College," not "Collage."

First thing: before you consider the classes you take in high school, you need to consider the high school itself. If the district you attend has a magnet math/science high school, that should be the one you attend. If your district does not have a magnet math/science school, then you need to find out if there as a school district nearby that has a magnet math/science school you can attend, and what you have to do to be allowed to attend it. Your chances for admission to an oversubscribed college or university like Stanford are much greater if you are attending a high school that has a national reputation for its math and science program than if you are attending a run-of-the-mill high school.

If you are serious about attending Stanford, then the first thing you need to do is learn what characteristics successful applicants have:

https://www.collegedata.com/cs/admission…

In general, in addition to GPA and test scores, over-subscribed colleges look at things like awards and accomplishments, extracurricular activities, community service. If you want to increase your chances of being accepted at a school like Stanford, you need to make sure that you sign in all of those categories. It isn't too early to start building a resume of volunteerism and community activity and to do things like science fair competitions, publication in periodicals, robotics or other competitions, to start making your self stand out from all the other applicants.

Seriously-- get with the spelling work. The mistakes you made in this question are bonehead mistakes that stick out a mile. You cannot be careless with your work, even on a casual basis, if you seriously expect to be one of the 9% of applicants who are accepted to Stanford.

High school requirements to get into a 4 year college?

We Answered:

You can either call a UC school and ask them to send you some information about the classes you need to take in high school in order to get into one of their schools or you can go to your high school guidance councilor and ask them what a UC school requires. I hope this helps good luck with school!

Michael Said:

What can I expect going into high school?

We Answered:

I was so nervous going into high school too!

Let me just say that it's way different then middle school...so much better! Its not even close to what the movies make it out to be!

The one thing I can tell you is get involved in clubs or sports, whatever you like!(I know sounds cliche :P). But really, that's how I met all of my upperclassmen friends, which are amazing lol. That's how you get all of your party invites, you rides to lunches and practices, and just get to hang out with and meet lots of new people that they know. Plus clubs and sports make school fun, which is what everyone wants!

Also don't be afraid to try something you haven't! Join a club or sport, or audition for a play. Freshman year I played tennis, and had never played before and ended up loving it!

Freshman year is strange at first because a lot of the girls see it as their chance to be popular since it's a clean slate. Yes, you'll still have the "popular" girls, but honestly most people really don't care lol. At my middle school everyone was a bit obsessed with the popular girls, but in high school everyone has their own friends. Also, from my experiences the "popular" girls have limited friends, they have their little group and that's it. It's so much better to have tons of friends then it is to be popular =)

And please do not slack on your grades! Yes people will try to make you do stupid things (like ditch class), but don't give in and find friends that will respect your grades(Tip: ask upperclassmen for help on things you really don't understand, they've taken the class before!) Remember, high school grades are important! Just don't get too stressed out over them! Also, at some point you will probably fail a class (because you didn't make up a test yet or whatnot), but a lot of teacher are willing to help you get back on your feet, so just ask!

One time I almost got benched for a week at tennis because I was failing geography! At the time I thought my geography teacher was mean, but after I talked to him we worked out a deal and he signed a note saying I wasn't failing anymore (he raised my grade just enough for a D until I made up everything=)).

Okay, lol I'm sort of rambling now so I will just leave things at that!

Remember get good grades, don't stress, and just have fun! High school is an amazing experience, so don't miss a second of it!
