It varies per state, but I believe it's around 20 hours max, not pass 7am or later than 7-8 pm. No more than 4 hour shifts. & you have to keep up your GPA

So they can have a source of income other than begging their parents for money.

It also gives them experience. Later on, for college and real jobs, it'll look good that a kid has already had a boss, worked with people, etc.
