Reading For High School Students
Lee Said:
what is that required reading list for high school students? We Answered:
It depends on the school that you attend and what books your teachers want you to read. In my school, for instance, many moons ago, I had to read Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, Great Expectations, and a few more I can't recall. In any event, it all depends on your school. Since you are homeschooled, perhaps you should ask your parent what books they will require you to read.Hilda Said:

9th: Jane Eyre, Great Expectations, To Kill a Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Odyssey, Night, Animal Farm, The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner10th: The Count of Monte Cristo, All Quiet on the Western Front, A Separate Peace, Lord of the Flies, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Antigone, Julius Ceaser, The Color Purple
11th: In Cold Blood, The Awakening, The Catcher in the Rye, The Narrative of Fredrick Douglas, The Invisible Man, The Sun Also Rises, The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, The Crucible, Fast Food Nation

They should also read various contemporary works such as The Road, Atonement, or The Purple Hibiscus
That's what I read in AP English all through high school and I passed all of my AP tests.

Should the Kite Runner be required summer reading for high school students? We Answered:
I think it should be, there's a lot of symbolism and parallelism, that would be good for kids to learn. And this isnt a true story.Patsy Said:
Where can I find a good recommended reading list for high school students? We Answered:
http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary…Those are decided to be apparently some of the most influential books. Though with James Joyce I would be careful when choosing a book from him. "Ulysses" and "Finnegan's Wake" are some of the hardest books to understand. "Ulysses" is a book which from my understanding details every single event in a mans life in Dublin.
Also depending on if the school would allow it one of the top books in my opinion every teenager should read is "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. Another good book that might be rather difficult but important would be the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Not saying you need to read the entire comedy but it is still a critical piece of reading. Not to mention that most universities use the Divine Comedy and it would prepare them for that.

Should the Communist Manifesto be required reading for high school students? We Answered:
Yes they should read it in High school. My kids read it and we home school. They also read Atlas shrugged and study news letters from the Mises Institute of Austrian Economics. They also study the Bible. Now, that's what I call a well rounded education. Of course, they all recognize the inherent fallacies of Marx and Engels reasoning. The multiple millions who were murdered and even now live in poverty and misery due to their polluted thinking
My kids also study the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They know, for instance, the framers of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were highly religious men. The students in our "home-School know, the Bill of Rights guaranteed, not a single right, to individual citizens. The rights are God given. The Bill of Rights forbids the government from taking them away.
They memorized the Gettysburg Address

Now, how come you aren't advocating children in public schools learn the conservative side?
