They used to be called orderlies. The job is about taking a patient to radiology or physical therapy, for instance, and back to their rooms. Sometimes you will be called on to help nurses move a patient in bed, and to take charts from medical records to the nurses station. you get to clean up spills sometimes, and you get to take medical equipment from one place to another.

The interview will be whether you are willing to take instructions, be responsible, whether you have sense enough to be well groomed, and to take care not to spread infection from one place to another. Probably scrubs are standard.

Check with the director of your Nursing Academy program, or a local hospital to see if they offer classes for high school students planning to enter the field. It may be possible to get a head start.

I was a Unit Clerk years ago, but I was already out of school, so this was not a problem. Your mom is right, though. Not only will you learn the importance of paperwork, but many aspects of the medical profession will be a your disposal.
