Volunteer Work For High School Students

Georgia Said:

Can a high school student volunteer in a medical lab?

We Answered:

Highly variable from state to state and from region to region. I know in some prep high schools they actually have labs, but the best way to find out is ask. Don't get your hopes up, though, chances of you doing anything advanced are pretty low. You'll be doing a lot of manual labor.

Volunteer work for High school student?

We Answered:

Wow! First of all, I congratulate you for taking such awesome initiative to make a difference in your community. We're completely similar in that aspect. Volunteering will expand your heart in a way that no other doing will.

I really become interested in charity work after reading the novel "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson. He was an average American guy who was touched by the difficult and heartbreaking lives lead by people living in Pakistan -- and he went far ends to try to help them by building their children schools so they could get an education that every child in the world deserves. Coming from a man who began with no money and later began a foundation worth a million dollars, I truly took this to heart. I've done some research, and these are a few websites that I think could benefit you immensely.

Remember, doing things like this, and raising awareness about the world we are often so blind to around us is never an easy task, but it was shape you and transform you in ways that are unimaginable. So persist, dream, and you will be successful, I promise!

Best of luck!

Earl Said:

What kind of community service / volunteer work would you suggest for a high school student?

We Answered:

.
Something that is sorely needed, and is fairly easy to do, is to volunteer at a nursing home. They are always looking for people to do things with the senior citizens to help entertain them, or just sit and talk or play cards with them. So many of them are lonely. They either have no family, or the family that they have can't get there to see them as often as they would like. It can be a lonely existence. When someone volunteers in a venue like this, it can end up being as rewarding for the volunteer as it is enjoyable for the people you're helping.

Another place where they always seem to need volunteers, and it can be fun to do, is at the local animal shelter. They like to have people walk the dogs. A buddy of mine does this. It's fun for him and the animal shelter people are very appreciative.

Good luck!

Average number of volunteer hours for high school student?

We Answered:

Colleges and universities do not care about the number of hours an applicant volunteers. Instead, they care about what the potential student did as a volunteer, what he or she accomplished, what he or she learned, why he or she volunteered, and how well the potential student can express all of this in narrative form. They are particularly interested in leadership volunteering:
