Why High School Students Drop Out

Darrell Said:

Why do you guys think students might drop out of high school?

We Answered:

There are lots of reasons that students drop out of high school. For one thing, discipline has been replaced by stupid rules like they can't touch each other, they aren't allowed to take an aspirin to school, etc. Bullies aren't punished and their targets are told to learn how to protect themselves rather than teaching the bully some respect.

It is my understanding that the arts have been dropped for the most part. Consolidations of smaller schools has led many students to feel invisible. If parents aren't interested in their child's progress, the student is unlikely to be interested either. Many students don't see themselves paying 20 years for their education if they could get the money for college. Starting out your life with thousands of dollars in debt isn't very appealing to a lot of people young or old.

The corporate ladder is only relegated to certain types of people. Some people are just happier working with their hands. Everyone is different. To set one standard for everyone is unrealistic. Learning a trade can offer a good life with or without extended education. You would probably be surprised how many college grads are washing windows or working in factories or mowing lawns.

Roberta Said:

why does high school students drop out of school?

We Answered:

Most kids drop out of high school because they are not motivated to learn. It seems like their future is "not there" for them. And some people have no one to push them to do their best in school.

And, to tell you the truth, some kids drop out because their parents don't check on them, just like I did. I just quit going because I did not want to read, actually because I did not want to be a "burden" to anyone. And guess what...I made the biggest mistake a woman can make: I "fell in love" with a loser.

But there's always hope.

Jane Said:

Why do teachers get so upset when high school students drop out? What if they student hated school and was?

We Answered:

Schools and parents usually set students up to fail from the beginning of kindergarten. Schools teach with the reward system if you make good grades you get a pizza party, you read books you get a reward and so on. Parents pay kids for good grades and punish them for bad grades. Schools and parents should teach kids school and learning is a gift for each child it is not about getting a reward for doing what a kid should want to do. By the time they reach high school they rarely can please their parents or school anymore they decide they have had enough and quit. High school teachers [the ones that care enough to get upset] know what a student is doing to their future when they quit. Don't you see because you hate school and are constantly failing does not mean you are not learning. You probably hate the atmosphere and all the stupid testing, you might not be good at taking test but that is alright are you learning? The teachers that care know if they did not have to follow all the stupid guidelines they could reach more students like you if you have teachers that are upset about students dropping out it could be because they care. I hated every day I went to school and had to repeat some classes at the time I thought I was dumb but now that I am older I know myself better. I want to learn about things especially history there is so much I don't know I am really into politics and I think about having history in school and I think why didn't I pay attention back then. It was not because I was dumb and couldn't learn I didn't have a passion to learn. I didn't want to be around a lot of people I did not fit in with. Find out who you are there is something you can be passionate about once you find that passion you will see you are not a failure the system has failed you they bribed you to learn they did not teach you the joy of learning. We all have things we are good at find yours please don't drop out take this time for yourself you will find your way as long as you don't quit.
