G'day,

Constance Said:

How to apply a scholarship in Australia?

We Answered:

International students have to pay upfront for their degree - semester by semester. This fee is around 2-3x that of the local fee for Masters and 4-6x for an undergraduate degree.

Scholarships for non-Australian students are non-existent. We do not have the alumini support like there is in the US tht pays for the extras. Our financial income comes from the government, international student fees and research grants (which actually pay the lecturing staff). The public perception is that if there are any scholarships to be given (and we are talking about no more than 100per university and they are only around 5K in amount) to Australian citizens.

Australians tend to go from a Bachelors to a PhD - Masters is almost non-existent (except for a MBA). You will find that there will be no more than 5% of Australians in your Masters degree - they will be all international students.

A one bedroom/studio flat near the University will cost around $400-600 per week (people earning around 6K per month live in these apartments). Students either live in shared accommodation (4-6 people in the same place - paying around $180-220 per week) or live up to 60km from the university and pay $180 per week for a place for themsel ves.
