Canadian Scholarships For International Students

Marlene Said:

Does a foreign student in Canada have to pay tax on his GRA and TA scheme?

We Answered:

Look at CRA's website for International Students:

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/internationalst…

The full amount of scholarships, fellowships, or bursaries that are received by you as a student with respect to your enrolment in a program that entitles you to claim the education amount are not taxable and are no longer reported as income on your tax return.

Research grants and wages for teaching (TA) are taxable, after expenses are deducted.

Help me plan my future. Can I afford college at Canada?

We Answered:

I think that's super sweet, and good luck!! sorry i don't live in Canada, but if it's much like the US then if you did rather good in high school you should have an easy time getting a scholarship for some part, which is good you did good, and I know in the US there's lots of different scholarships for lots of different things, and I know in one school where I live, but probably not in Canada, they'll give you a full scholarship for boating, maybe you can find something like that there!.. a part time job wouldn't get the full 22 thousand yearly unless you are really good at something and get a nice job... good luck! =)

Misty Said:

Can I still apply for universities ?

We Answered:

You can ask, but it's highly unlikely. By this time, they're well into the review process, and they're going to wind up with more students than they can accept anyway. It wouldn't be fair to admit you over someone who worked hard and made the school enough of a priority to meet the deadline.
