With what you have just described i would without a doubt say Brisbane for you. I live on the Gold Coast which is only 45 minutes from Brisbane and we have pretty much some of the best beaches in the world so you can always come down here for the beaches. UQ has a very high repuation here and i sometimes go up there just because its so fun to be there, its huge and so beautiful! Brisbane can be cold in winter but then get really hot aswell. Whereas with Syndey it won't get as hot and also it gets alot colder in Sydney.

Sydney has better transport just because it is the most popular city in Australia, so it would have too. Its also a heck lot busier and is often for the whole 'grown-up' business people. It has a very good nightlife, lots of clubs and is really fun.


Brisbane has really good transport aswell though! you can catch the train so easily from brisbane to gold coast only 45 minutes. the buses run all the time. it is also cheaper in brisbane.

for all the outdoor activities you wouldnt exactly be able to do them in either brisbane or sydney for the best places. if you lived in brisbane you could easily drive up to the sunshine coast it takes approx 2 hours. they have great places for snorkelling. or down to byron bay which takes about the same time.

comparing brisbane and sydney, i think you will find that there are more young people in brisbane. it has quite a big music scene there aswell. but then again so does sydney, it pretty much has everything because its so popular.

melbourne is a great city for students...but cold...however u can live close to the city...sydney is 2 expensive for students!!!
