Lewis Said:
what is i-765 for an international student? We Answered:
An I-765 form is used to apply for employment authorization. An F-1 student who wants to work off-campus must submit form I-765 to CIS to gain permission to work off-campus.Working off-campus could include OPT or CPT, but if you're asking about working off-campus because of severe economic hardship, that calls for an I-765 application too.
An F–1 student may be authorized to work off-campus on a part-time basis after having been in F–1 status for one full academic year provided that the student is in good academic standing as determined by the DSO. The student must request a recommendation from the DSO for off-campus employment.
The applicant should submit the economic hardship application for employment authorization on Form I–765, with the fee required by 8 CFR 103.7(b)(1), to the service center having jurisdiction over his or her place of residence. See your school's DSO for more help.

CPT tax for international studentsWe Answered:
i have only done a few of these and find them confusing. If you are going to be considered a Non-resident you should make sure that the employer is not taking out the FICA tax as it is difficult (at best it takes a long time)to get back.Agnes Said:
International full time student in the US - Continue job after CPT has expired? We Answered:
F1 students must get permission from DSO in order to work under CPT. you can't work with your expired CPT. you will have to get DSO endorsement on your I-20 if you want to continue to work for that company.Lorraine Said:
As International Student F1 Visa. Do I have to registered while on Curricular Practical Training "CPT"?We Answered:
Well it depends on the university and the department people. But you need to register for 3credits for Internship. In our university 2 semesters back they allowed people to work 40hrs/week in semester time without registering for normal courses. So they used to work for full time throughout the semester, but now they say u can work 20hrs/week for the semester time and need to register for another course work. But if its summer there is no need to register for any other course work and u can work for 40hrs/week. But u have to register for internship credits whether its summer or semester. So it depends on your International student office personnel and your department head.Hope this info helps you
