Well I guess I would say it depends on where in Europe you are going as to which is more commonly used

All I know is that at least for the UK and Netherlands that the ISIC is a commonly known card (I was a student in both and used it).

Study the details on the respective websites and also for the country(ies) you are going to be using it in. Then you can take a decision based on this
