The wording is irrelevent. You can legally perform any kind of employment providing it relates to your degree whilst on OPT.

If you are a citizen of somewhere, be aware that "internships" - [a word that in the UK most closely approximates to apprenticeship] fall somewhere between employment and studying.

Not all countries have the concept, so they may not exist where you are looking.

While they are both similar to each other, an "Intern" is a temporary position (usually with NO PAY--if there is any pay, it is very minimal) that gives you on the job training.

Apprenticeship usually means that you work for a small wage while they teach you the skills necessary for a "specific" craft, trade, etc.

If you're willing to travel and find a room in Brooklyn or Queens, you might be able to find something for about 600-800/month with utilities included.
