You are not asking the right question.

You need to speak very good Japanese just to get into a Japanese University. You need to at least pass the 1st level of the JLPT. That is the minimum requirement. But your Japanese should be much better than just passing the JLPT 1 to do well in Japan.

Too many people come to Japan and find out that they can't really speak Japanese. They end up struggling and don't get the most out of their experience here.

If you want to get ahead in Japan you need to know Japanese plus other skills that are in demand, such as computer programming, business and finance or engineering.
