What Are The Best Japanese Language Study Abroad Programs? We Answered:
This is a great page with many programs to study Japanese abroad. Good luck! Sounds like a great experience.Joshua Said:
Chinese Language or Japanese Language? Study Abroad Decision...?We Answered:
I spent ten years working for a Japanese engineering company in Tokyo; it was valuable experience for me in every way. Both China and Japan will continue to have important relations with the U.S., and you couldn't go wrong with either one; but, if you are looking at a career in translation, I might suggest that you think more of Chinese, as the Chinese economy is now where the Japanese economy was about 40 years ago, and will only become more important to to U.S. investors in the future.
Good luck!

does they theach you the language in study abroad programmes? We Answered:
I answered two of your other questions. And as I said, yes, in a way, they do.
You have orientations where they make sure you have a basic grasp on the language. Of course, it'll probably go much better if you start learning on your own before you go.

Do I need to know the language for study abroad? We Answered:
Finns are taught English as the first primary foreign language which usually begins at 3rd grade up to 9th grade. So basically yes, most people would at least understand you but their verbal ability in the language may not be so fluent. It completely depends on the person. The Finns are more withdrawn and like their own circles more and stepping out of comfort zone may be an issue for them in the beginning. That doesn't mean that they're impolite at all. It's said that silence is golden so you probably don't need to be very talkative all the time. Too much talking can be annoying and it's really more about what you say. We don't have much of that smalltalk culture. There's a lot of subtitled undubbed american tv shows on television but they may be a few years behind.
Finnish isn't exactly that easy to learn. It's completely different from germanic or anglosaxic languages. I think you'll be just fine with English.
Alvin Said:
Can you teach your native language abroad without having to study it first? We Answered:
You can be a tutor or offer private lessons in the US without any kind of certification in your own language. But to teach at a high school or college (if you can even find one that wants to offer Croatian) you'll need formal training and a degree. Sometimes several degrees.Samantha Said:
