Is having part-time job sufficient to cover Tuition fee in Australia for international students?

We Answered:

In short, no.

The catch for international students in Australia is that they must be enrolled FULL-TIME in order to meet their visa requirements. They can also work legally no more than 20 hours per week as a part of their visa restrictions.

It would depend on what kind of course you are enrolled in but an undergraduate degree at a University could cost you around AU$30,000 per year. The salary for a pretty reasonable FULL-TIME JOB in Australia is AU$40,000 (and don't forget about taxes).

While it is far from common place, there is evidence that some international students are turning to sex industry work in order to meet their fees.

Working 20 hours a week legally might cover your rent, food, books and other living expenses but definitely not the fees.

Is having part-time job sufficient to cover livings costs in Australia for international students?

We Answered:

Depends on what kind of job and how long you work in a week, I'm an overseas student now studying in Perth, Australia. If you are a Chinese then you probably will work in a Chinese restaurant, but the salary is very low. However if you work in a local shop(ie. Supermarkets: Coles, IGA, Woolworths; Fast food shops: McDonald, KFC, Subway etc..) you can get a much better salary and if you work for the maximum hours(20hrs/week), you probably will get around A$300 per week
Depends on how much you need to spend per week, but for me is very enough. I only spend around A$160 per week for all kind of stuff(food, rental, entertainments etc..)in Perth, WA
