They are terribly expensive and not always well chaperoned. Those letters are little more than advertising ploys! Your son and a thousand others received them!

An average trip is going to be $5,000 - $7,000 +++. For that money, you could pay for the majority of an ENTIRE YEAR exchange for your son -- and that would have lasting benefits such as language immersion and university preferred admissions and/or scholarships.

AFS is good. try united world colleges too.
scholarship is offered to needy and good students.
u can enrol directly to the sch or await general notification.
acceptance is based on grades / nationality / needs / acumen / capacity - there will be interviews
homestay has its pros and cons. u get into a family and be part of them. boarding - u're independent and do what u want.
when u finish exam in malaysia u wait for semester to start in aug/sep or february in the southern hemisphere. but u hv to apply one year earlier.
preferably to study for 2 years - high school in one of these colleges would make u a better person and the contacts u make is tremendous.

It all depends on your major and what you like to do. University of Arizona had a good reputation for Journalism, but it wasn't terribly great at languages when I went there. USC or UCLA are tops for film.

Johns Hopkins is a good school with a lot of international students.

Armenia may have some exchange programs. There are also scholarships based on religion, major, what you've achieved in the past, etc.

Fastweb is a good place to look for scholarships.

The Rotary club. www.rotary.org/ I was an exchange student to Taiwan last year. This is a chance of a lifetime. If you have any interest in seriously doing this. Go to this website and see if there is a rotary club near you!!! There probably is. If you have any questions...you can message me. You can do a summer in the US or you can do a full year. I did the full year. I recommend the full year, i think just for the summer is too short. Go to this website and check it out. The Rotary Club is the most organized exchange program in the world. Check it out. IT'S WORTH IT!!!
