If you are an Australian citizen you are allowed ninety days in France on a visa waiver. Seven weeks is is well below that.The time of the year is not relevant. You need a passport, your proof of registration from the school that you will attend, the proof that you can pay your way whilst you are in France if you are not lodged by the school, and a return ticket.
