12th Grade Math

Brenda Said:

What is LiberalArts Math(12th grade, not college)?

We Answered:

It is a combination of algebra and geometry, designed for the student not ready to take algebra 2.

Good Luck!

Lori Said:

How do you know if a relation is a function?(talking about graphing) 12th grade math.?

We Answered:

Functions must be 'onto.' That basically means that every x value provided must go to one and only one y value.

x y
------
3 2
3 1
2 1
1 0
0 5

This is not a function, only because x=3 gives two answers!

On a graph, there's something called the vertical line test. If you can draw a vertical line through your graph that hits two or more points, it's not a function for the same reasons as what I listed above (one x value gives 2 or more y values.) I hope this helped!

Bernice Said:

You can see if there options to take the class again (ask a guidance counselor). Usually the solution is to take it online though.

Ruben Said:

What is the best way for me to learn 7th grade math stuff so I can understand algebra 1?

We Answered:

I am not in the US but would assume that any 12th grade math teacher ought to be able to teach 7th grade math. Why not ask him, or her?

12th grade math problem: Finding concentrations of acid?

We Answered:

x: concentration of container a
y: concentration of container b
c: concentration of mixture
Va: the volume used from container a
Vb: the volume used from container b
V: Total volume (Va + Vb)
xVa + yVb = cV

so
300x + 600y = 0.45*(300+600)
300x + 600y = 405 .........eq1

and
100x + 500y = 0.415 (100+500)
100x + 500y = 249 .....eq2

solve eq1 & eq2
300 x + 600y = 405 ...............eq1
(100x + 500y = 249) * -3 ...........eq2
-300x - 1500y = -747
add
-900y = -342
y = 0.38

substitute in eq1
300 x + 600 (0.38) = 405
x= 0.59

so
x = 59%
y = 38%

Susan Said:

Getting degree in Math- certified teacher 8-12 grade, but what if I want to become a professor later?

We Answered:

You would need to have a PhD in Mathematics to become a professor. Mathematics is a very difficult PhD because you need to make a unique contribution to the field of mathematics and have to be a very advanced mathematician to even begin your studies for PhD. I would suggest getting a Masters in mathematics before applying as a PhD student, because math certification is very very different than a degree in applied mathematics.
From there many universities extend offers of post doctorate studies, and then a fellowship or professorship from there

Good luck!
