Political Science Graduate Programs

Kenneth Said:

What is a good political science graduate school program that's not slanted left-wing?

We Answered:

Yeah, seriously. Why don't you first learn to articulate exactly what you mean by 'liberal gibberish' and then talk grad school. Sorry. Name-calling just doesn't cut it in the academic world. You're going to have to learn how to craft a sensible argument and treat your adversaries with respect.

If you want your professors to tell you what to do and how to think in your master's degree program, it's not going to happen at any American school. Well, except maybe a military academy or a monastery. Why don't you join one of those.

Jorge Said:

Top political science programs?

We Answered:

Ranto's got it right. One thing you might need to know, though, is that small liberal arts colleges--many of which have very strong programs throughout--do not have graduate programs and therefore aren't ranked.

The UVA program is pretty well-respected, as far as I can tell. There's a professor there who once taught at my undergrad--he was a GREAT prof, so if the rest are anything like him, you're set.

Ana Said:

Should I enter a political science graduate program if I have an undergraduate degree in English and PR?

We Answered:

There is no reason not too. Many people get graduate degrees in areas other than what they got their Bachelors in. But why just a Masters? In most of the top Political Science programs you apply directly to the PhD program though you can usually get a Masters on the way

Elizabeth Said:

I am majoring in finance and political science and thinking about graduate school, what is a good GPA to have?

We Answered:

3.52 will make it really hard to get into Yale or Harvard for any degree, with any skill set, any level of leadership, and any test score. A good GPA to help ensure entrance into grad school, especially liberal arts grad school is 3.7. Any lower and you'll need great test scores, and a lot of extra cirriculars and quite a bit of luck.

Even in mid level programs you will be going up against people with GPAs of 3.8+

Grad school is not for any sort of screwing around, you need to show you're serious and you need to show it early.

Herman Said:

Graduate schools for Political Science, specifically National Security programs?

We Answered:

Look at the Center for Peace and Security Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. It offers a fifteen-credit graduate program which leads to a certificate and also offers doctoral and master's degree programs. Admission appears to be competitive and you will need to include certain undergraduate classes in your curriculum to have a good chance of admission.
