Housing London Rent

Sue Said:

Where are the cool areas to rent in london where there are not a lot of aussies and kiwis like in fulham?

We Answered:

The thing is that it's all foreigners that live in share houses in London.

I have lived in about eight share houses in London and that means I've had a lot of housemates! Only two or three or them have been English though. The vast majority have been Australian or New Zealand (when I lived in Finsbury Park and Turnpike Lane - even though that area is not known for being full of Antipodeans) but I've also had French, American, Canadian, Iranian, Bosnian, Spanish, etc.

English people tend not to live in share houses in London because they don't need to - they have larger social networks here so can rent with friends or family rather than strangers. Plus, they don't mind spending more on the rent - Australians are happy to live 12 people to one house if it means that they have more money to spend on European travel.

So, if you're adamant about living with English people, then either set up your own share house with people you already know, or else move outside of London.

I wonder why you would want to live with only English people though - I find it fun and interesting to live with people from different backgrounds and nationalities.

where can i find a furnished house for rent in london ontario?

We Answered:

Try looking up properties online in the area where you will be relocating..you can put a price range you are looking for and how many baths and bedrooms you want. Try to google something to the effect of.. Looking for a furnished 2-3 bedroom house, for around 1200$ per month in the..... what ever area you are relocating to. Sites will pop up that can at least get you started on the right path....Good luck.. The internet makes things like that so easy these days...Good luck to ya!!

Edith Said:

How much would it cost to rent decent housing in the London region per month?

We Answered:

You should have no problems getting what you want for that kind of money, but you will not be centrally located - more likely out in Hampstead or some where like that. The further from central London you go, the greater the choice and the lower the cost.

I would suggest getting one of your staff Googling for a higher level estate agent and begin your search there.

I need some info on London house rent, opening a bank account, driving license.?

We Answered:

I can only give you information about the driving licence....

You can drive on your home country driving licence for one year from the date of arriving in the UK. After that time if you haven't taken and passed the UK practical driving test, you would revert to being a learner and would have to get a provisional licence and may only drive on our roads if accompanied by a full licence holder over the age of 21, who has had a full licence for at least three years.

This link should help...
http://www.direct.gov.uk/Motoring/Driver…

I can't seem to find any information regarding your International licence, other than if it is issued in the UK and going to be used abroad, so I'm not sure what the exact rules are about that....here is one link with some useful information...

http://www.idlsupport.com/?gclid=COfjyZC…

You don't say which country you are in right now, (I'm assuming it's the US, but whichever country it is, there will probably be quite a few rules of the road which are different to what you are used to, so it would be in your own best interests if you took a few lessons to familiarise yourself with our ways of driving.
(I went to visit my friend in Kansas a few years ago and was having kittens when she was turning on a red light...not done in this country at all!)

Edit
Just had a look and this is a useful link about opening a bank account...

http://www.intstudy.com/articles/ukbank.…

Also just looked at the exchange rate and 2000 US Dollars is...
1,043.7061British Pounds
(it is expensive to live in London)

After another search I found this...
http://www.workgateways.com/working-cost…

Hope all the info helps in someway...

Lynn Said:

How can I find pet friendly accomodation to rent in London? Most places seem to say 'no pets'.. Any ideas?

We Answered:

This is really difficult.

It is the very reason that rescue will never home to people in rented property because even if you find a landlord that will accept animals, most leases are short term, and so the whole search starts again when you have to move on.

I really do hope you find somewhere, but London and the south has always been hard to find places.

I guess it is keep searching -- hope you manage to.
