Julie Said:
What's the estimated cost of living in London as a university student? We Answered:
Sharing is cheaper. I rented a double room, shared kitchen and toilet (It had its own shower) and included all bills (I paid for my own internet connection) for £400 a month and it was a mile from the train station. Somewhere around that is normal. If you rent somewhere to yourself double it up at least and then add bills on top. The cost will vary depending on area unsurprisingly so you have to balance the cost of travelling to uni from further away and saving some on rent to paying more rent by living closer and less on travel. Transport is ok but is time consuming and sometimes not very pleasant.
As for food there are lots of cheap places to eat, at one point I was feeding myself well (not junk food either) eating out on £4 a day so hardly ever cooked. A lot of places also do meal deals (Wetherspoons), 2 for 1 or all y ou can eat.
Groceries are cheap and you can get bargins if you look about (goto sainsbury's hot delhi counter half hour before it shuts, full cooked roast chicken for £2) you can cut down shopping bill by getting unbranded stuff
It is an expensive place to live so start looking and shopping around now. There are a lot of letting agencies including online. Also bear in mind when moving in a lot of places will ask for a security deposit AND a months rent in advance.
Good Luck.

What do I ask for and look for when I'm renting an accommodation in London? We Answered:

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF any cheap good HOUSE/FLAT rooms to move in central london, im a student and need a ROOM!?We Answered:
try the evening standard, u might be able to get a flat share or something. Central London isn't cheap tho. Try moving slightly out of the west end it will be cheaper and prolly easier.Janice Said:
Is Whitechapel and the broader area a good place for a student house? Would you say it was 'rough'?We Answered:
It's a bit of a dive, but it's cheap and it's within an easy commute of the city centre. There are worse places. There are better places. You're a student, so take what you can.
Worse case scenario, it'd only for a year.
Deborah Said:
In which city near London is better for a student to rent a room?We Answered:
To be honest, the money you save by renting outside London will be made up by commuting. It works out pretty expensive. Go for a place in one of the outer zones such as zone 4 and with a student monthly Oyster card it should be OK. Good luck!
